On a holiday, you never know what amount of people are going to show up for a yoga class. Or for any exercise or routine activity. Often, people like to use it as an excuse to take a break, time off from anything that requires focus. But sometimes it's the opposite, the day off gives people time to develop the desire to go and do because all weekend they haven't done much. Not in the self-growth sense.
Whatever the case may be, Hatha @ 6 tonight was a packed class. The studio was pretty much full as the quirky instructor with Nike joggers and big frame glasses began to start class. She always greets us with the term 'friends' in the most authentic tone - she is genuine.
We zoned in our opening up our backs through the movements and poses. Which included taking lacrosse balls/tennis balls and smashing specific muscles with them. She then proceeds to go into this scientific explanation about how muscles only work when they aren't too tight or too loose...she had a clear reason for how and why it is that way.
That reason didn't matter as you feel the sensation throughout your body of that deep pressure on the muscles that are not usually stretched despite their active use in daily movements. It is almost like they are neglected these specific muscles. And now, as we are paying extremely close attention to them it requires patience, focus, and complete commitment.
We spend our whole lives developing our emotional muscles. But somewhere along the way, we forget these tiny emotional muscles within us. It isn't until something or someone comes along that is able to reach into those muscles and help us stretch them to their proper place again. When you find the things and the people that provide you with that...that emotional stretch and stability, you need to embrace it.
Because your emotions need something or someone who will stretch you while simultaneously providing stability.
