Parts of a Whole

Saturday's at the studio are the best.

There is nothing like forcing your body out of the comfort of your bed, yanking on tights & a tank top, brushing your teeth, trying to pop in your contacts except one rips in your eye causing you to dig the pieces out then put in a new one, slipping on the Nikes, greeting your puppy, waving at your parents who share your rental house, finding your car keys, glancing in the mirror at your messy bun from the day before, climbing in the car, and cruising downtown Fort Worth. All in the name of zen.

Hatha @ 10:30 on Saturdays is usually a full class with a sprinkle of regulars and newbies (people like to try yoga on a Saturday), but today it was just me and another regular, a gentlemen who frequents many of the Vinyasa classes and is committed to his practice.

The two of us worked in sync through the class twisting and breathing and extending and balancing. Then we reached the "drill" portion of the class where we do 30 second rounds of holding different variations of the "L" shape with feet on mat and hands on wall or feet on wall and hands on mat and from there lifts off the wall then hands on floor and kick ups.

As I mentioned previously, I successfully performed leg lifts earlier this week and I shared this news with the laid back but strict instructor. The next thing I know she has upped our 30 seconds to 45. I of course protest, just like my students when I challenge them they must voice their complains before they are willing to do the work. Maybe the voicing of the doubt helps get rid of it. I don't know.

After our rounds, I somehow asked questions that led to the explanation that the L pose builds into the lift offs that's basically a half splits builds into kick ups builds into hand stand. And once I shared my ability to do the lift offs, she wanted to up the time to challenge me because being able to do something means you're ready for the next step. See, she purposefully does the drills so that if you attend classes each week you're building up the muscles to eventually do one pose. And my news was confirmation that her plan was working!

I have been doing a lot of extra work on my side hustle that has included many training videos, note taking, and goal setting. The number one focus for me is helping others. Being active in sharing opportunities for growth that can be beneficial for all. I see myself as a just a part to a greater whole.

Each day of this project is just a small part to the greater whole. Yes, in a physical manifestation each day is required to reach the goal of 100. But in a spiritual manifestation, my daily interactions and reflections spread to an unknown and unlimited amount of people in ways I may never know. And that's okay. That's what I want. Because this isn't about me. It's about the greater whole.
